Let me begin by saying- I have seen a lot of vaginas…
Now, to back that comment up, I have been doing aesthetics for 12 years now, and that means a LOT of Brazilian waxes!
I am very lucky and grateful to be a busy medical aesthetician at my practice.
I’m here today to tell you the truth from an expert on Brazilian Waxing and vaginal cleanliness.
Your wax specialist is your best friend:
First off, I’m not a jerk. If I’m getting into your intimate area, I actually do care to get to know you!! I can’t speak for all the other aestheticians out there. Something about being a woman in another woman’s private area allows them to completely open up to you. I know things about some of my clients that I probably shouldn’t know! But the fact that they have shared these things with me, shows they trust me.
*With all of this being said, don’t ever cheat on your wax specialist!*
First and most important:
If it’s obviously not an ingrown hair and you’re questioning a recent break out(that really doesn’t look right), please cancel your wax appointment and goto the doctor. I do not want to be the one to tell you what it probably is. Yes, this is awful, but I’ve seen it multiple times.
That ‘awkward’ everyday question I get asked: “is my vagina ugly?”
Girl- you is beautiful, you is kind. You need to wear that vagina with some confidence and that’s the truth behind it. There are so many shapes and sizes to vaginas, and honestly, it’s just another vagina.
*Carry yourself well and everything about you will become beautiful.*
Hair growth prior to waxing: Your hair needs to be 1/4 inch long to be able to get a nice, clean wax. Any hairs shorter will not pick up and will have to be tweezed out- which we try to avoid. This is why you need to have two full weeks of hair growth when you come in for a wax. So, do not take your husbands beard trimmer to that area thinking you’re helping us out with the length. Just leave the hair alone and allow us to trim it if needed. It may seem gross to you, but it’s better for us.
Now, let’s discuss types of wax-
Soft wax removes fine hairs perfectly, where as hard wax does not. Soft wax adheres to the skin, which means it will pull up every single hair and also remove that top layer of dead skin. Hard wax only adheres to the hair and has a hard time attaching to fine hairs(hence why it’s called hard wax). What this means- yes, hard wax will be less painful, but this also means it will not last as long! Using the combination of these two waxes(majority soft) will be your best outcome. If you’re going to go through pain either way, might as well stick with which has the best outcome.
I believe the biggest “to do” before your appointment:
Make sure you give that area a good clean up (front to back). Treat it like a first date- don’t leave any surprises behind from your last bathroom visit for your aesthetician to find. That can make things a little awkward for the person doing your wax.
*No one should ever feel that comfortable on a first date.*
Now, it’s time for your appointment, and you may be second guessing that harsh Mexican food you ate for lunch, but luckily for you- most places that you’ll visit for a wax should have something available for you to clean up with. Do not feel embarrassed to ask!
*Have your queso and eat it too!*
I would recommend, of course, always playing it safe. Invest in some cheap baby wipes to keep on you at all times! You never know when you may need them.
*Remember, you’re only one swipe away from a good time!!*
Also, cleaning up prior helps to remove oils from the skin, which can make for a much easier waxing process. Skip the body oils and lotions though-there should be no barrier between the skin and the wax application.
Try taking less baths, and more showers! Please trust me on this one. Taking baths every night is not good for our ‘hooha’ areas. I mean, think about it…sitting in a tub full of your accumulated bacteria from the day and it being exposed into or around the vagina is not good. You’re just asking for a bacterial infection. Also, adding in bath bombs and all of those wonderful scents will just leave down yonder with a bad scent. Some things are just better on the outside than they are on the inside. And, for those that think cleansing up inside of the vagina with these wonderful smelling feminine cleansers (summers eve *cough cough*) is good for you- well, think again!!! Our vaginas are actually self cleansing! Did you know that? Each and every vagina is designed to keep itself clean with the help of natural secretions(discharge).
*You may be high maintenance, but your vagina isn’t*
So, invest in a plain and simple, unperfumed soap-and wash the outer area around the vagina gently. Toss those feminine washes, wipes and douches out ladies! Life will be made so much easier for you!
•Let’s make this world a better and cleaner place, one vagina at a time!•
